Learn English from zero: a 6-month plan
A practical self-study route for absolute beginners, with the books and gear for each stage.
Most beginners quit because they start with grammar tables. Start with sounds and the 1,000 most common words instead, then add grammar when you already have something to say.
Step by step
- Month 1: learn the sounds of English and copy short dialogues out loud every day.
- Months 2โ3: build 1,000 core words with flashcards, 15 new cards a day.
- Months 3โ4: one basic grammar book, one unit a day, write three of your own sentences per unit.
- Months 5โ6: graded readers and slow podcasts; keep a daily five-sentence diary.
- Every week: one real conversation with a partner. Dialogue is where it sticks.
